Why are you in the “Movement”? Part I

It is fairly common amongst people in the UC to not consider themselves a follower of Moon and his family, but feel they should continue their life inside of the movement. They agree with the simple concepts of some parts of the Divine Principle and Unificationist teachings such as true love, abstinence, and raising a good family. They feel that it does not matter if they believe in the church’s leaders, but that following these practices will lead them to a good life. One may ask a member, “Why are you still in the church?” They would answer with something along the lines of, “Because I want to raise up a good family” or “Because I believe in true love”. Is it really that simple?

What’s even more interesting is that a large fraction of these people are aware of the falseness of Moon and his family. They understand that Reverend Moon could not possibly be the Messiah because of his false actions (abuse, affairs, use of public funds, gambling, etc.). Believe it or not, most “outsiders” hold many of your values. Many outside the church believe in the sanctity of purity, marriage, and family. Everybody wants to “raise up a good family”. Non-members are not all “Satanic influences” like some of you have been conditioned to believe nor are BCs at all superior in any aspect. We like to believe we have this special connection and many believe this is spiritual confirmation of us all being rooted in a holy lineage but that is not so. We bond because we come from similar backgrounds but I promise you that deep, honest, real relationships can be formed outside the church.

So… why are you in the Movement?

This blog has disassembled the idea and belief of the “True Family” being exemplary, ideal, etc. I am sure many of you reading this understand that many members of the True Family are simply selfish and abusive people. And you say “I do not necesarily believe in True Parents” but continue to follow them. The “True Family” is at the root of Unificationism and much corruptions flows through them. To sum it up, there was unfortunately a coke head who beat and raped his wife, a suicide, obsessive gambling and mishandling of church funds, a deceiving con man, etc. It is not in anyone’s best interests to follow these people and their organization, let alone support them. Unificationists can uphold many of their beliefs outside the church. Many who aren’t completely naive and oblivious to the sad, dark facts of the “Movement” stay only for convenience. It consists of the pressure of family and friendships and an easy way out.

Happy Easter, brothers and sisters.
