The Butchered Eve Nation Called Japan

One of my active Unificationist friends once asked me why I was personally against the Unification Church. Quickly, I spat out some simple stuff. I went over the hypocrisy of Reverend Sun Myung Moon, went into great detail of his affairs, and I stated the contradictions in the belief system. I spoke a good amount about the corruption that is the True Family and within the leadership. This did not shake her. She replied saying, “But this does not affect anybody.” I then went over the situation throughout the world and how people have been greatly affected by this Movement. I went on and on and on, and nothing moved her in any way. As I concluded she had expressed no sympathy for those hurt by the Movement and replied, “But that does not affect you.” I was shocked.

Why was I shocked? I was shocked because the Unification Church prides itself in the belief of “living for the sake of others” as a core doctrine. Selflessness and true love for all people went out the window as I spoke about the pain the Church has put on others. And it hurt.

What exactly does the Unification Church do that is destructive or evil? Well, there is a lot. We can go over how horrible the First Generation were/are treated, though most members will brush that off as works of indemnity. We can go over the hypocrisy and falseness of major leaders in the Unification Church. We can go over the contradictions of Sun Myung Moon. We can go over a lot. After all, we have been for half a year, but most have brushed these truths off as well. Above all this, the treatment of members in Japan is what pains me the most.

Over the years I have met many Japanese members through church events, workshops, conferences, and simply living the Unificationist life. Knowing these people has brought me to an understanding of the financial crisis all of them are constantly going through. I was recently told that only 40% of BCs in Japan go to college. Why do they not attend college? They simply cannot afford it. Of course these are rough times financially and many are having this issue, but they are still being put under great pressure to donate and the amounts they are asked is absolutely ridiculous. Since the Moon’s net worth has been shown to be in the billions, they should step up to the plate and give them some financial relief. Unfortunately, that would only be “living for the sake of others”. The hard working Japanese and other members around the world have to donate large sums of money, but the “True Family” does not.

Cheongpyeong is basically a huge money making operation but for the Japanese the place is ten times worse. Liberating ancestors (a.k.a. paying for your ancestors to be saved from the pits of Hell) for an American costs about $120. But for a Japanese person… it is in the thousands. The Cheon Seong Gyeong cost about the same price for an American, but again… it is in the thousands for a Japanese member. Is this fair? Is this all for indemnity?

A good friend recently told me that most members in Japan are tens of thousands of dollars in debt. She also told me that the church in Tokyo is known for having the most Second Generation. She looked around and saw a fair amount of people, but she could quickly count the amount of Second Generation. As she explained, many Second Generation just cannot handle the financial pressure of the Church and go astray or become inactive. Though it is boasted that Japan has millions of members, most members in Japan are actually inactive.

The Church in Japan is not only financially straining but is extremely deceptive. They continue to go on the streets pretending to be a spiritualist group that could help you find out about your future and they invite people to have philosophical discussions, which turn out to be Divine Principle lectures. Throughout the 90s, representatives from the Unification Church were known to target those with recently deceased family members, especially widows, and pressure them to buy hanko, or a seal, to save their family members from the fiery pits of Hell. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were extracted from each individual.

So much for that honest “programming” documentary of the Japanese In Jin Moon is heading up. It seems to be just another UC fabrication where many important details are left out. Now, this is but a sneak peak into the situation of the Japanese movement. Can you honestly say you support that? I guess you can conclude that it does not affect you and move on with your life. You can simply say it is indemnity and God’s work. But tell me, is that really for the “greater good”? Is robbing people of their time, money, and opportunities living for the sake of others?
